Do you lead a Guide Unit? Are your Unit records all over the place? Do you carry lots of folders/exercise books/papers to Unit meetings? Do you plan your weekly program on scraps of paper and then lose the paper just before the meeting? Do you wish there was a simpler way? Well, now there is! Introducing The Australian Guide Unit DiaryThe Australian Guide Unit Diary is designed to solve all those problems, and more. Created by a former professional forms designer with 30 years of experience as a Unit Leader in Guiding, the Australian Guide Unit Diary has all the forms you need to lead a Guide Unit in Australia. They include:
Formats available The Australian Guide Unit Diary is available in two formats: Option 1 An electronic file (pdf format) for you to print out yourself. The Diary has been designed for double-sided printing, and will not work properly single-sided. If you choose this option, you need to print 90 double-sided pages. Each electronic copy is to be used by the owner only, that is, it can't be copied and given to other leaders. The electronic file will be emailed to you - if you don't have an email address, I will snail mail it to you on a PC-formatted floppy disk for an additional cost. If you want it on a CD, please contact me first. Cost: $25.00 (+ $5.00 postage if required). Disadvantages: printing hassles and you don’t get updates. Option 2 – Best Deal! Comb-bound paper copy (no printing!!). Don’t waste your time laboriously printing out pages that have to be reinserted into the printer for the second side. Purchase a hard copy, already bound, and ready for immediate use. The Diary may not be photocopied or otherwise reproduced. If you wish to put the pages into a ring binder, let me know on the order form, and I'll send it to you unbound. Cost: $30.00 + $10.00 postage anywhere in Australia (multiple copies attract a postage discount - please contact me before sending payment for multiple copies).
Better yet, if you opt for the bound version, updated versions for following years are available in bound form at a discount, and suggestions incorporated in future editions will also attract a discount. Payment for the Unit Diary would be a Unit expense. This is not an official publication of Girl Guides Australia.
Frequently Asked Questions I'm concerned that the Diary might have a NSW bias. I am a Guide Leader in Queensland. Is the Diary relevant for me? The Diary is a collection of forms and planners that are designed for use by anyone leading a Guide Unit according to the Australian Guide Program. As with any diary, there will be some forms that you might not use often, or at all. For instance, there are several methods of planning the program - simply use the one that suits you best. Similarly, if a particular form has sections that aren't quite what your Region is used to, fill in your own requirements in those sections. Is the Diary dated, or does the leader insert the appropriate dates? The Australian Guide Unit Diary is undated, so that it can be started at any time of the year. When you receive it, simply sit down with a calendar and fill in the appropriate dates and start using it. This will take a little bit of time, but it's well worth it. Two leaders (of two different units) live in our house – do we need to buy two copies? The Diary is meant to be used by Units, so that you have a complete record of the Unit’s activities over a year. Therefore, each person in the household would need to buy a copy for her own Unit. It would also be perfect to hand over when leadership of a Unit changes - everything would be at the new Leader's fingertips! Remember, purchase of the Australian Guide Unit Diary is a legitimate Unit expense. How do I get a discount for the Diary? There are several ways to attract a discount when purchasing a copy of the Australian Guide Unit Diary. If you have already purchased a copy and you make suggestions to improve it that are incorporated in a future version, you will get a 10% discount for your next purchase (and acknowledgement in the Diary). Bulk orders of ten (10) or more Diaries will also attract a 10% discount. If you purchase a hard copy of the Diary and a year later purchase an updated copy for use during the next year, you will get a 5% discount. These discounts are not cumulative, and may be varied at any time. Can I type directly into the pdf? I like to keep records on the computer and then print them out. The pdf version of the Unit Diary is not currently set up for interactive (fillable) forms, which means that you cannot type directly into it, even if you have the full version of Acrobat. The Diary is designed as a manual system where everything is kept in the same place, not some pieces on the computer and some in a folder. However, if I get sufficient interest, I will see if I can convert it into an interactive pdf (no guarantees!). How could you see my messy desk all the way from Cattai NSW? I figure that if my desk is messy, approximately 99% of the desks in humandom are probably messy. I didn’t peek over your shoulder – I’m a Desktop Filer too! That’s why I created the Australian Guide Unit Diary, so the mess on my desk doesn’t interfere with leading my Unit. See Gaye’s Filing System for a terrific and easy way of filing your Guiding resources that even kids can do. I’m going to print it out and put it in plastic sleeves in a binder. I suggest that you don't put the pages into plastic sleeves - that makes it harder to write on them - you have to pull out the appropriate page, write on it, put it back in the sleeve, and pull out the next one etc. I suggest you put it in a ring binder - but PLEASE print it double-sided - you'll see why when you get it.
