Here are some musings I have come up with when thinking about leadership as a general subject, and while talking to my Junior BP and BP Award girls for their leadership discussion.

• Leadership is about getting a task done.
• Leadership is about developing your people to the stage where you can trust them to do what is needed.
• Leadership is not about bullying.
• Screaming is not an effective method of leadership. Screaming implies an insecure leader.
• Yelling or shouting, in terms of giving instructions in a loud or firm voice, can be a very effective method of leadership, especially to grab attention.

Here is the list of questions that I ask my Junior BP and BP Award girls for the Promise & Law and leadership discussion clauses. I have found that these questions, given to the girl a week before our discussion, really give the girl a framework on which to base her thoughts. I make it a discussion, not a question and answer interrogation. If I hve several girls ready to do this clause at the same time, I get them together and have a group discussion, making sure every girl has the opportunity to say what she thinks. If you ask the same questions each time, you can see how the girl's thinking develops.
